THE WONDERFUL STORY OF THE CAMCOR WITH JOHN FEEHAN

In this lecture, John Feehan, who has spent a lifetime exploring the river, will lead us on an expedition in space and time, looking at all aspects of its natural history and human story, and suggest that without the Camcor, Birr would have never been where it is in the first place!

MARK LYNDON - THE RIVER WITNESSED

Wednesday 7 August / 8pm

A live-music performance of original songs based on folk stories spanning 500 years. The Birr native has gathered accounts of these almost-forgotten events from long-term residents around the Blackwater Valley in North Co. Cork.

Music & Song in the Afternoon with Emer Dunne & screening of The Social by Hazel Greene

Thursday 8 August / 2.30pm

Enjoy music and the sublime voice of Emer Dunne as she performs well known love songs (Wild Mountain Thyme, Sweet Sixteen) alongside some contemporary surprises! You can also enjoy the screening of The Social by Hazel Greene, a visual record of the social life of the Church of Ireland Youth of the 50s, 60s and 70s.

In this relaxed and conversational participatory workshop, participants will share stories, discuss town life and be part of an informed and productive discussion toward a sustainable future for Birr.

Birr and the Irish Town

Saturday 10 August / 7pm-8.30pm

Talks of the Town concludes with some film, live-readings and great conversation. In this evening roundtable panel discussion, the town of Birr, at the centre of Ireland, will be placed in a national context.
